The National Register of Mental Health Consumers and Carers

The National Register of Mental Health Consumers and Carers is made up of over 60 mental health consumer and carer representatives with experience working as representatives and training in leadership, advocacy, policy development, communication and other topics. These representatives are available to be members on national committees, boards, planning groups and evaluation groups as consumer or carer representatives.

National Register and National Mental Health Consumer & Carer Forum Workshop

All members of the National Register and NMHCCF have experience working as a representative and have undergone training in leadership, advocacy, policy development, communication and a range of other relevant topics.

The members of the National Register took part in a two-day representative skills training workshop in 2008, and in 2009 and 2010 with the NMHCCF. This was a key step in developing stronger links between the NMHCCF and National Register members.

The National Register of Mental Health Consumers and Carers is now an ongoing project at the Mental Health Council of Australia and members receive ongoing training through an annual two-day workshop.

Mental health carers have their own internet forum where they speak freely to other mental health carers nationwide about issues that concern them, or just to chat to other who understand completely.
