Perspectives Newsletter - September 2015. A new National Mental Health Plan and reform of the system that goes with it, can only occur if everyone plays a substantial part in the process. Reform must be designed in tandem with the mental health sector and must be led by First Ministers. In this article, Mental Health Australia CEO Frank Quinlan outlines the issues facing governments and the sector in regards to responding to the National Mental Health Commissions Review, and implementing the NDIS .

On the eve of World Mental Health Day 2014, Vice Chief of the Australian Defence Force, Vice Admiral Ray Griggs AO , CSC , RAN gave the key note address at our annual Grace Groom Memorial Lecture. Held at the National Press Club, the Vice Admiral outlined many of the issues facing a modern defence force that is looking to respond to the issue of mental health and wellbeing amongst service men and women.

MHCA Chair Jennifer Westacott recently presented a key note address at the Association Forum’s 9th Annual CEO Symposium. Speaking to an audience of leaders from the not for profit sector in Australia, the presentation focussed on how the various sectors can work together to create mentally health workplaces in Australia. The presentation explores the current political climate for mental health; the impact of mental illness on the community; the new vision for the MHCA , and; how leaders can improve the mental wellbeing of their organisations and work with people with a mental illness.
